Sporty's Stage 1, Lesson 13
Preparation for the flight
Briefing and discussion items
Runway Incursions
- taxi route planning
- use of taxi diagrams
- Sterile cockpit
- Hot spots
- SA and shedding distractions
- Checklists
- Airport signs and markings
Ground Reference Maneuvers
- Relationship between bank angle and groundspeed (a high groundspeed means you need higher bank to maintain the same radius turn)
- Low altitude maneuvering, AFH says "generally flown" 600-1000 AGL. ACS says 600-1000 agl.
- Risk management for low-altitude flying
- Map study and awareness of powerlines and towers
- Foreflight terrain display
- Preplaned Emergency landing site
- Plan for maximum bank angle (45 deg)
- Plan for Airspeed not higher than Va
- Calculate stall speed at 50 deg bank
- Good neighbor actions for low-altitude flying
ACS standards for completion
- rectangular course, S-turns and turns about a point (there are more maneuvers in the AFH, but these are the ones specified in the private ACS)
- 600-1000 AGL
- +/- 100ft +/-10 kts
- Rectangular pattern: constant ground track
- Turns about a point: constant radius
- S-turns: turn over the ref line
Emergency procedure of the day
ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP FAILURE
Conduct of the flight
- If possible, we'll go to Keene with maneuvers enroute and on the return leg. At Keene we'll fly multiple traffic patterns
